CPI(M) MP Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya, including others were detained by Kolkata Police for protests against an attack on a CPI(M) bookstall on Monday.
Kolkata Police detained CPI(M) MP Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya and eight others on Monday during a protest at Rashbehari crossing in south Kolkata over an alleged attack on a bookstall put up by the Left party a day before.
Bengali filmmaker Kamaleshwar Mukhopadhyay was also among the people detained by Kolkata police. They were protesting against the incident of attack on a book stall of Left front.
During the Durga Puja, Left front opened a book stall near Rashbehari in south Kolkata area. Left leaders alleged that, TMC workers attacked their bookstall on Sunday. Against this attack on their bookstall, CPI(M) leaders started protesting Monday evening.
The Kolkata Police requested them to withdraw the protest from the road to make the area peaceful during Durga Puja. After a hot alteration with police personnel, 9 leaders including CPIM leader Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya, CPIM district secretary Kallol majumdar was detained from the spot and taken to Tollygunge police station.
Later they were sent to Central lockup in Lalbazar Kolkata Police headquarter. Police source claims, all of them has been released after legal procedures.
